The General Assembly was also a great opportunity for our PHD students & Post-Docs to exchange some new ideas and work on solutions together.
We used the last on our General Assembly to explore one of Vienna's many Urban Hikes. Starting from U-Bahn Station Ottakring, just a few minutes of walking lead to beautiful paths in the forest.
Views from our 4th General Assembly, in which we got to experience the Urban Hiking Paths in Vienna.

In case you missed our last #ECOLOPESTALK, you can now find the slides of Prof. Dr. Leonie Fischer's talk on our website. https://ecolopes.org/ecolopes-talks

In the talk, she described current approaches in #urbanplanning, spanning from #ecologicalrestoration to #urbandesign.
Upcoming #ECOLOPES TALK on April 2nd live on Zoom:
Prof. Dr. Christoph Rupprecht researches sustainability and cities from the perspectives of multispecies studies, degrowth, green space, food and agriculture. He’s particularly interested in the role of stories, games and the imagination in rethinking social structures and institutions through a more-than-human lens. Following a closer look at the emergence of relational thinking across disciplines, the talk will discuss what principles underpin this redefinition of sustainability. It will conclude by exploring promising avenues for future research and potential applications, from urban design to art and fiction.

The 12th lecture of our #ECOLOPESTALK series is now on our youtube channel.

Tune in to understand more of Fahim Amir's research on philosophies of cohabitation and his analysis of the prevailing architectural discourse and the dispositives of contemporary urban planning with regard to their anthropocentric constitution and develops possible perspectives of solidaristic design.

Verena Vogler will be presenting her work on #ECOLOPES at the @cdfam.symposium - Computational Design Symposium - in Berlin on May 7th-8th.

She will talk about the Rhino/Grasshopper plugin that facilitates ecological analysis of building envelopes, using algorithms to predict the distribution of species across a 3D space and time using environmental data (e.g., light, soil depth, soil type, in the future precipitation).

Find more information about her talk here & the registration link here: https://cdfam.com/verena-vogler/

Upcoming #ECOLOPES TALK on March 5th live on Zoom:
Prof. Dr. Leonie K Fischer, head of the Institute of Landscape Planning and Ecology at the University of Stuttgart, conducts her research with a special focus on the ecology of human-influenced habitats in both tropical and moderate regions, including urban ecology and urban restoration. She also works on a deeper understanding of how people value urban nature, and what influences their attitudes. In her talk, she will introduce current greening approaches in urban planning, assess their potential to create safe and healthy environments for everyone and untangle how people use and value urban nature and how a mosaic of green structures helps mitigate climate change and biodiversity loss in cities.

We're happy to welcome Stefanie as an expert for data informed design in our #ECOLOPES team!

Stefanie is an architect, university assistant and doctoral candidate at the Department for Digital Architecture and Planning at Vienna University of Technology. Her research interests include environmentally conscious spatial planning and building design, with an emphasis on stakeholder engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her focus is on data-informed design and using data to develop and support individual decision-making processes. As part of the ECOLOPES project, she developed a weather-sensitive design for a kindergarten in Vienna using GIS analysis tools.
Upcoming #ECOLOPES TALK on February 6th live on Zoom:

Dr. Fahim Amir, a philosopher based in Vienna, specializes in researching the cultures of nature and urbanism, perspectives of cohabitation and transculturality, and questions of architecture and space. He will introduce the philosophies of cohabitation by analyzing the prevailing architectural discourse and the dispositives of contemporary urban planning with regard to their anthropocentric constitution and develops possible perspectives of solidaristic design.

Introducing @gabrioneto:

Gabriele Oneto is an architect and a PhD student at the Department of Architecture and Design, University of Genoa (Italy), focusing on urban data modelling and analysis for the preservation of human urban habitats against climate change. In ECOLOPES, he will explore how the emerging patterns of urban heterogeneity effect the implementation of biophilic designs.
